FOR NEARLY 30 years, Creekside Companies has developed a reputation as the top local, award-winning builder and remodeler in the Grand Rapids Area.s

As West Michigan natives, Doug Butterworth, President and owner of Creekside Companies, along with Kalee Isenga his daughter, know what it takes to build the perfect home or waterfront cottage. Creekside has been creating new custom homes as well as transforming existing homes into luxurious respite retreats for nearly 30 years. Drawing from our design and construction experience we are able to help compose the perfect home that captures the most extraordinary features each home location offers all while maintaining the client-driven list of functional wants and needs. We build extensively on what we call “special location” properties that deserve the experience we can offer as well as well-appointed specialty condominium construction.

Lifetime Design

As an award-winning builder and remodeler, we offer exceptional service and bring design experience, vast construction knowledge, and fierce integrity to every project. Since we live right in the heart of West Michigan, we have had the opportunity to work on projects as unique and diverse as the area itself. Each home is a direct reflection to our company’s commitment to quality construction and meeting our clients goals and wants.

Not only does Creekside pride itself in quality construction, we have a deep understanding of home adaptation and how a home can be designed to accommodate different levels of mobility and life changes. Creekside ensures that these kinds of adaptations do not look commercial or sterile; using slight modifications and insight on better design, these spaces can be as creative and well-crafted as any other. Doug became a Certified Aging-in-Place Specialits and “Lifetime Design” expert long before his son Coleton was born as a paraplegic with spina-bifida. However, through Coleton’s “different abilities” he gained new perspective and appreciation for universal design (homes that are designed to allow for changes in personal and familial situations). We build every home “zero step” if possible and we incorporate that universal design concept even if clients are fully “able-bodied” at time of construction or remodel. “Home visitability” is a term we use to describe this accessible home design. Doug enjoys life with his wife Michelle and their four gown kids. He truly understands the many changes in life experiences and that a home must be flexible in its function to provide each owner many years of carefree living. Doug received certifications in Aging-in-Place and Lifetime Design long before his son Coleton was born as a paraplegic with spina-bifida. However, through Coleton’s “different abilities”, he gained new perspective and appreciation of universal design (homes that are designed to allow for changes in personal and familial situations) and he brings that perspective to every project. In his free time, Doug loves spending time enjoying all the seasons and everything Michigan has to offer as well as the occasional “winter” vacation to the other beautiful peninsula state Florida.

Kalee works as the Selection/Project Coordinator. She is recently married, lives in West Michigan and is a female entrepreneur, a realtor, and most importantly a wife. Her professional journey began after helping at Creekside over the years with general construction work as well as jobsite clean-up in the summers. After high school she spent some time at Kendall Design School investigating the design side of the business and although successful there she decided her interest was to be more involved in the coordination of the work rather than the actual selection of the details. She transferred to FSU where she is in the final year of earning her Construction Management Degree. As part of her passion for construction she is a board member of the Professional Women in Building Council integrated through the local Home Building Association. In her limited spare time she enjoys everything and anything outdoors, attending cross-fit daily, and rehabbing homes with her husband Tim.
